KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 (Bernama) -- Bank Pertanian is expected to be corporatised next year to enhance its delivery system, the Dewan Rakyat was told Monday.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim said this would raise the bank's ability to finance bigger agriculture projects through the increase in its paid-up capital from RM50 million to RM2 billion.

"The move will also enhance the capacity and capability of Bank Pertanian staff to carry out their mandate more effectively besides expanding the scope of loans and other services to fulfil the total needs of farmers, breeders and fishermen," she said when winding up the Supply Bill 2007 at the committee stage on the ministry's behalf.

She said Bank Pertanian had drawn up its clients charter in which the bank had promised to be more customer-friendly and aimed to process loan applications faster.

"According to the charter, Bank Pertanian will give decisions not more than 11 days for branch-level approvals, 24 days for state-level approvals, 35 days for committee-level approvals and 48 days for board approvals," she said.

Rohani also said her ministry had asked the bank to relax the requirement for collaterals and guarantees in loan applications.

The Dewan Rakyat will sit again Tuesday.
